The Probus Club of Livingston
West Lothian, Scotland
Introduction
The Club meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month, from September to May, at 10.30am in the church hall of St.Andrew's Church, Deans, Livingston. There are no meetings during the months of June, July and August. Coffee, tea and biscuits are provided in an adjoining hall before the formal meeting
At the formal meetings, an invited speaker, or one of our own members, gives a talk or presentation on their chosen subject for about an hour , after which we hold a short business meeting.
History
The Probus Club of Livingston was founded in 1985 with a membership
of more than twenty. Our membership is now over forty and this year,
2006, we celebrate our 21st Anniversary in May with a formal lunch.
The annual subscription for members is currently £12 per annum.
From time to time we operate a waiting list for new members.
Officebearers serve for one or two years, depending on the office,
and take up their positions at the annual AGM which is held on the
second Thursday in January.
Objectives
As is true for all Probus Clubs, the objectives of the Club are to provide regular opportunities for retired and semi-retired professional and business people, and those of a similar background, to meet those of similar interests, to hear interesting talks and presentations and to visit interesting places around the country.
Other Club Activities
There are active groups for Bridge, Bowls and Golf and in the summer months there is an annual Fishing Expedition. We hold an annual Christmas Lunch with female partners and other guests and, on alternate years, we hold a Burns Supper in January to celebrate the life and works of our national poet, Robert Burns.
