August 5th 2008Sunday afternoon music concert
I am enquiring whether Probus groups would be interested in knowing that we have a music concert
Sunday 21st September with The Meljon Singers at 2pm.
The running of the event will take the following layout; 40 minute first half, 20 minute interval and 30 minute second half, with the aim to finish approximately 3.30pm.
The Meljon Singers are one of London's most accomplished and enterprising chamber choirs, established since 1990.The concert will take place within our beautiful woodland hall set within a mature 52 acre forest. Epping Forest Burial Park is a member of the Essex Wildlife Trust and has recently been awarded the Green Flag award 2008/2009. The Burial Park is the largest mature woodland cemetery in the country, which was officially opened 9th May by author and broadcaster Kate Adie OBE.
We feel that the Sunday afternoon concert will be a great day out and would like local groups to join us. The tickets cost £5 adults, £3 for OAPs and free admission for children. We have recently compiled a list of events running throughout the rest of the year and look to continue this within 2009. For a full list of our events programmes please view our events diary on our website www.woodlandburialparks.co.uk
I hope this will be of interest and if you think local Probus groups would be interested, please let me know.
Apologies for not knowing whom to address this email to.
Kind regards,
Beth

Dear Sir.
My name is Stephen Flinders, a local historian from Ilkeston in Derbyshire, a member of the Ilkeston and District Local History Society and member of staff at the Erewash Museum (also in Ilkeston).Having already given a number of well received talk/slide presentations to a handful of Probus gropups in our own immediate area, I would like to be able to contact others within a wider area in the Drbyshire and Nottinghamshire region. Does your organisation have a system whereby one may contact the secretaries of your many Probus Clubs.

April 24th/08I am emailing you from the Willow Foundation with regards to our Piece of Cake campaign.
The campaign is set to take place throughout the month of June and the idea for the our campaign is simple. It's a piece of cake - get together for tea and cake and help raise valuable funds to provide special days for seriously ill young adults aged 16-40. All you have to do is decide where to hold your tea party then invite your friends and family to join you!
We would like to contact members of the Probus groups in particular those in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire and Essex to inform them of the campaign.
We are working with a number of community groups nationwide this year, including the Women's Institute to promote the campaign - some groups are including our A4 information poster (attached to this email) with their own mailings and others are including an advert for the campaign in their own publications (newsletters/magazines/websites).
I would be ever so grateful if you were able to tell me the best way to promote the campaign through Probus groups. If you have any questions regarding the Piece of Cake campaign or the work of the Willow Foundation then please do not hesitate to get in touch.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.

March 25thHello
Please forgive me for contacting you out of the blue, but I thought the following play at the award-winning Finborough Theatre in Chelsea might be of interest to your Probus club members and I wondered if you might be kind enough to forward this to them or tell them about it.
The play will finish by 9.30pm so there is plenty of time to get home. Saturday and Sunday matinees are at 3pm.
Tickets are £9 (concessions), with further concessions available for groups.
The play is a brilliantly funny and elegant comedy about the British army and British expatriates in 1942 Singapore, which I very much hope your members might be interested in.

Re Probus Groups in the Cheshire
Clare Kewney
email. ck@tiniesnorthwest.co.ukDear Sir/Madam
I wonder if you might help me. I am trying to make contact with the probus groups in the Cheshire area. I am a qualified Hearing Audiologist and wanted to ask about offering my services as a speaker to the probus groups both men and associated ladies groups. I have been a speaker for a number of years on the topic of hearing which I believe has been very successful.
I do not charge for this service but ask if required that a contribution be made to Hearing Concern charity. Could you provide me with contact details of the groups and I would be happy to make my own arrangements with each group secretary.
Many Thanks

Planning a group visit for 2008? Why not consider a trip to Stonor Park, 5 miles from Henley. Stonor is the historic home of Lord and Lady Camoys, dating from medieval times with a C12 chapel still in use today, set in wonderful parkland and with a walled garden containing a wealth of plantings , visit one of the other historic houses in the area or a visit to the River and Rowing Museum in Henley. Subject: Jaipur Limb ProjectI seek the help of the Probus Clubs within the North Eastern Scotland area I am a Rotarian from Blairgowrie and a retired Police Inspector as well as a local Justice of the Peace. In Blairgowrie Rotary Club we are embarking on raising cash to set up in India a camp to fit artificial legs for amputees. Basically where as in the UK an artificial leg costs £1000 we can do a workable leg for £25! If you look at www.rotaryjaipurlimb.co.uk you will get all the details.
I propose visiting as many organisations in the vague area of Blairgowrie and talking to groups regarding this worthwhile project. Of course if the group were prepared to make a donation - however small - so much the better. I wonder if you could provide me with the contact details of your local Probus Club Secretaries so that I might write to them offering a talk. Or perhaps you might suggest another way that I might "Get my show on the road"

Good morning
I have heard about Probus from several sources and wondered if you maintain a central list of speakers that your member clubs can draw on?
I work for a charity by the name of Teenage Cancer Trust and we have a team of speakers based around the country who would welcome the opportunity to speak at your meetings. Perhaps the best thing to do would be to have a look at our website www.teenagecancertrust.org where you will be able to see the full range of our activities. On the site you will also find an area headed \'Education and Awareness\' where there is a section devoted to Clubs and Societies.
Alternatively, please feel free to give me a call on 01937 841274.

Our National Heritage for Future GenerationsThe Science Museum ’s collections are considered the best in the world. Yet 92% of the Science Museum ’s objects are kept in run-down, inaccessible stores in London and Swindon . These are unique physical records of UK and international invention whose value to the nation is almost entirely wasted.
To see a sneak preview of some of our collections, have a look at the recent BBC online coverage: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/hi/picture_gallery/07/in_pictures_technology0s_hidden_ past/html/1.stm
We want to be the largest museum development in Europe and will make these national treasures available to the public for the first time ever, particularly for schools and visiting coach parties.

THAMES AND SOLENT REGION TALKS SERVICE
I have gleaned your address from the Internet and knowing that some groups have availed themselves of this service I am keen to bring it to the attention of a wider cross section of your membership.
Our region is Berkshire , Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire and Greater London)? Most of our speakers will give a slide presentation and talk about the history and development of the National Trust. Some can cover more specific topics such as architecture, industrial archaeology, gardens, conservation, coastline or properties within specific areas/counties. Our speakers are volunteers and many of them have special areas of interest, but vary in their willingness to travel to venues within our very wide Region. We do not, therefore, issue a specific list of subjects, but seek suggestions as to a matter of interest and we will do our best to match up with an appropriate speaker. Many groups prefer to begin with a general introduction – even National Trust members sometimes do not realise the scale and complexity of the Trust’s work.
I have an explanatory leaflet which I would be happy to supply for circulation if required or would do this myself quite willingly if you wished to adopt the latter course suggested above.
May I thank you in anticipation of your assistance in this matter.
Yours faithfully,
Donald Hodgkins

Hello Geoffrey,
I am a member of "Probus - Westland" club in Naaldwijk, The Netherlands. With my wife and 3 sons, we have lived in England from May 1972 till August 1981, in: Chester; Beaconsfield and Croydon. Now I am the vice-president of our local Probusclub and next year all going well, the president. Last year was our 15th anniversary of the Club. We were on holiday in Cornwall and visited the Town of PROBUS. We made our acquaintance with the local clubmembers and had a nice chat with some of them. We took some pictures of the sign entering the town of Probus, the local Church and so on and placed them in our anniversary book. This year we will be visiting the Ross-on-Wye area (the town of Goodrich) from Monday July 30th - Tuesday August 7th and Chester from Tuesday August 7th - Friday August 10th. Could you let us know of any Probusclub in those areas that we could contact. It is always nice to meet Probus friends in foreign countries. We hope you can help us out. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Enquiry: I am writing from the audience department of the Channel 4 production of ‘Countdown’. We are currently looking for more audience members for the show.Countdown is filmed at Yorkshire Television Studios, Leeds. The venue is easily accessible from either the M62 or M1 motorways and has parking facilities for coaches. Entry into the studios is free of charge.
We record all year round. There are 3 choices of time:
Morning 10.00 am – 1.00 pm
Afternoon 1.30 pm – 6.30 pm
Evening 6.30 pm – 9.30 pm
Morning and evening shows consist of watching 2 Countdown programmes, afternoon shows consist of watching 3 Countdown programmes with a break half way through where free tea, coffee and biscuits are provided.
We have had visits from ‘ProBus’ Clubs before such as Holmfirth who booked a coach and brought 50 members. It is the perfect opportunity to plan a day trip, going for lunch before or after the show. All groups who have been before have personally told me how much they enjoyed the visit and commented on how friendly the Countdown team were. We particularly cater for the ‘older generation’ by taking special care of anyone with mobility problems, ensuring we seat them first to minimise any stress and ensure they don’t have to struggle with stairs etc.
I would appreciate it if you could inform the members of your group of this opportunity. If you are interested in making a visit then fill in the attached application form and send it back to me. To discuss any further details please give me a call or email and I will gratefully answer any queries.
Yours Faithfully

From: "Michael Harrison" michaelharrison@juno.com Add to Address BookWe had great interest by our members at yesterday's Activities Fair! Our Club now has 32 members of its Home Exchange Activity Group. We are updating our mailing list in order to keep in touch with you.
Our objective is to encourage members to make home exchanges by researching ways for them to make and receive inquiries from others. We are pursuing the launch of ProbusHomeExchange.com with HomeExchange.com (which operates RotaryHomeExchange.com); Geenee.com (which provides a separate Probus members listing). This is to enhance our members' confidence in making exchanges. In the meantime, our members who have joined these or other Web services continue to receive many offers for home exchanges.
These offers span a really wide range - from Europe to Australia. If you would like to have sample offers forwarded to you, please ask.

From 17th June to 22nd June 2007, the Rendezvous is on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, and you are invited. All details are on www.probus.com.auIf you go there, and I hope you do, you will click on to the Brochure, in glorious color, and the Registration Form, which you can study, pick out what you want to do, fill it in and send it. Or maybe you can pass this information on to your friends. We are keen to welcome Probians from the U.S.A. and other countries to the Rendezvous, so please give it some thought.

e-mail from Gerry & Elizabeth, Healesville, Australia
gereliz@foxall.com.auGood morning Geoff,
Well it is morning here, as we are 11 hours ahead of you in time. I am a member of our local Probus group and my present position in the club is the Speaker Secretary in which I can indulge myself as to who I invite.
The purpose of this email is to enquire if there is a listing of Probus Clubs within the U.K. with their email addresses and also mail addresses etc My wife and I wish to visit the U.K. ( Sussex in particular) to visit our son who lives there now in Worthing and at the same time to see the grandchildren.
We would like to know if any Probus member would consider doing a house swap with us, we have done this before on 2 occasions with people from Toronto , Canada and from Newcastle -upon Tyne and results were great on both occasions.
The other alternative would be for someone who is going on holiday and would like their house cared for We live about 60 kms N.E. of Melbourne in the Yarra Valley famous for wine making and at the foothills of The Great Dividing Range I hope that you can help us
Thanks a lot
Gerry and Elizabeth.
P.S. Not a word about cricket!!!!!.Gerry thank you for your most interesting e-mail which I will copy into our announcement page for all our members to read. Please give me the name of your probus club in Australia.
Good morning Geoff,
Elizabeth could be right! Please e-mail Gerry & Elizabeth if you would like to exchange, and please e-mail me from the suggestion page (see the index on your left) if you think these pages could assist future member exchanges.
Thank you for your reply I am a member of the Probus Club of Healesville Inc and at the moment I am responsible for the monthly speakers. My wife Elizabeth is a member of one of the 2 ladies clubs in town. Our club is men only and numbers around 60/65.
Healesville is a country town 60kms N.E. of Melbourne and houses a world famous animal sanctuary and produces much of the wines that perhaps you drink, our last visitors from Newcastle-upon-Tyne enjoyed themselves immensely.
As I may have said, we hope to visit the U.K. later this year to see our son and the grandchildren, he lives In Worthing and so, if possible, an exchange in that area would be preferable.
Summer in the U.K. is winter here so it may suit someone to do a non-simultaneous exchange, we can take off from home at any time to make our home available and maybe do a “House sit” for someone there whilst they are on holiday.Coverage in the Probus magazine would be great.
Thanks for your help
Gerry and Elizabeth
P.S. Elizabeth has just read this email and commented that it would be a great idea if Probus could be the starting point for many more exchanges of this nature. Who knows!!! .
Regards

In October 2006 an appeal was launched to raise £50 million over the next 5 years to save Canterbury Cathedral. Extensive and costly work is needed to conserve the stonemasonry, stained glass windows and lead roof. In addition major development projects are required to take the Cathedral into the 21st Century. The Cathedral plays a vital part in the history of the city of Canterbury and Kent . It is also recognised globally as an architectural icon and is part of a world heritage site. It is one of the most visited tourist sites in the UK , attracting more than 1 million visitors each year but if the £50 million cannot be raised we face the possibility of a future without Canterbury Cathedral.
I would like to make contact all of the Probus clubs in Kent to invite them to book a representative from the appeal to speak to their group about the history of the cathedral, what is involved in raising the money and how it will be spent. The talks are not just about raising vital funds but also to raise awareness and profile of the appeal.
Would it be possible for you to provide me with a list of contact details for the secretary of each club in Kent , either postal or email so that I can contact them individually? I have been onto your website but could not find any contact details for anyone in Kent .
If you have any queries or would like further information about the appeal please do not hesitate to contact me or visit our website below.
We look forward to hearing from you. Yours sincerely

The next Probus Rendezvous will be held on the Gold Coast, Australia, from 17th June to 22nd June 2007. All Probians and partners are most welcome to attend.
For full details, go to website www.probus.com.au
The Home Page has a complete Registration Brochure in glorious colour, with a Registration Form.
If you want to arrange a visit, in a group or as an individual, send an email to hayley@tradetravel.com She can arrange your requirements, from, say , a month or so to just the Rendezvous week. June is winter time in Australia, but the weather is mild. A week in Darwin, then the Rendezvous on the Gold Coast, then a week at the Snowy Mountains and a week in Perth could be good. Just an idea of what can be organised and enjoyed here.
Would you please pass this information on to Probians in your area.

Through the Notice board I would like to convey greetings to fellow Probarians around the world. The beautiful city of Mandurah in Western Australia, already has separate male, and female clubs which are well established. Then a few months ago approval was given to also start an additional "Mandurah Combined club" . This new club has already outgrown our available accommodation and we have had to cap the membership at 130, with many applications relegated to a waiting list. So visitors to Mandurah can be sure of finding fellowship.

I am the volunteer convenor for the Poppy Appeal in Bearsden and Milngavie and am trying to get in touch with the Probus Clubs in my area. I have a contact at the Antonine Club, a Mr. Allen but I am not sure who to get in touch with at the Allander and Lomond Clubs. Every year one of the clubs, helps out with the appeal and I just wanted to make sure that I was sending my letters to the correct people! Every year various people tell me that they have not received my letters! Thank you for your help.
Yours sincerely,
Louise Bennet

Enquiry: Hi
I wonder if you can help me. I have a very interesting occupation as a Close Up Magician. While my work is mostly at weekends, I\'ve been filling my weekdays as a Guest Speaker talking on the Art of Magic. I\'ve done many talks to WI\'s, Church Groups and other local organsations, but only the odd Probus Club. How do I go about advertising my name as a Guest Speaker within the Probus Organation. The title of my talk is called \"Inside secrets of a Magician\" which has been proven to be a successful talk. I\'m a member of the Warrington Speakers Clubs and my talks have developed into lectures on cruise ships. If you can help me, could you please reply or call me on 01925 456443
Regards
Pete Turner
Dear Sir,
Can you Help me? I am a voluntary Public Speaker for the Blinded Ex Servicemens Charity [St Dunstans.] I am currently preparing a mail shot and I am not havingany luck in locating contact addresses for Probus Clubs in the Kent and Medway area. I would be very Grateful if you could please send me any contact Addresses as the Yellow Pages aren't very helpful.I have been speaking for St Dunstans for the Past Two years and my talk lasts for FortyFive Minutes to an Hour and I talk about my experiances whilst serving in Northern Ireland leading up to when I was Blinded and lost my Leg. The remainder of the presentation concentrates on the Work of St Dunstans rehabilatating and training Blinded Ex servicemen and Women. Don't worry, there are some funnies in this talk as well!!! I hope you can help me with my request, if this is not your job, then I am sorry for wasting your time.
Kindest Regards,
Steve Pendleton.
