READING EAST PROBUS CLUB

Introduction

Since its formation in 1993 Reading East Probus Club has proved highly popular, and this success has depended on its membership and those who serve on the committee under the chairman.

Officers of the committee and chairman are elected annually by the membership at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in March.

History

Reading East Probus Club is an offshoot of Reading and District Probus Club.

In February 1993 and with a membership exceeding 80 it was considered the time was ideal for further expansion, and a new club was formed in the east of the town to be known as Reading East Probus Club.

Membership

The club now has a membership capped at 65 members and, from time to time, operates a waiting list for new members.

The annual subscription, due at the beginning of each calendar year, is currently £10. No subscription is payable by potential members on the waiting list.

Object

The aim of the club is to provide a format in which members with a lifetime of experience in the professional and business world can meet to exchange views, and also gain an insight into the work of other professionals in their respective fields.

The club is principally a luncheon club and does not directly participate in fund raising activities for charity.

Meetings

The primary activity of the club is the monthly lunch meeting which normally takes place on the fourth monday of each month, at the Sonning Golf Club starting at midday.

The format of each meeting comprises a short introduction by the chairman including any club business, followed by a two course lunch and a presentation by a guest speaker. The meeting is normally over by 3 p.m.

Other Club Activities

There is a full programme of activities throughout the year, comprising visits to various venues including gardens, historic buildings, factories, museums and theatres.

There is an active walking group which organises a walk followed by a pub lunch from March to September.

Wives and Partners

Wives and partners contribute greatly to the success of the club. They join the members for the Christmas lunch, plus one other lunch meeting during the course of the year, and are actively encouraged to participate in other club activities.

Interested in Joining?

The club is keen to attract new members, and would as a first step welcome potential members to join one of our monthly meetings, to meet the membership and learn about the club's activities.
