The Jubilee Probus Club of Lincoln
Secretary President Treasurer Colin Brueton Arthur Campling GrahamYearwood
The Jubilee Probus Club of Lincoln was founded in 1977, with eighteen members, and took the title of “Jubilee” in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, whose Silver Jubilee was being celebrated that year. Following that first meeting the membership grew considerably, and within ten years had reached 87. It was felt that a balance should be sought to reduce the possibility of the Club becoming a little impersonal, and so a future membership limit of 75 was introduced. At the present time, thirty years later, we have a membership of 56, and so new members will be most welcome. The CLub meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month at The White Hart Hotel, Bailgate, Lincoln at 12 noon for lunch at 12.30 pm. Each month we have an after luncheon speaker, and the topics are many and varied. The second Tuesday of the month is the opportunity for members’ wives to join them for a coffee morning, and also in December we have The Ladies’ Christmas Luncheon. Occasional trips to places of interest in the area are also arranged.
The aim of the Club is to provide retired professional and business men the opportunity of meeting others of similar interests, and to provide friendship, fellowship and companionship. Sick visiting is also arranged where appropriate.
The city of Lincoln is the administrative centre for the county of Lincolnshire, and has a population of about 81,000. The skyline is dominated by the wonderful and magnificent Lincoln Cathedral, which is the third largest in the country, the other two being St. Paul’s in London and York Minster.
