History

The Carnoustie Probus Club held its first AGM on the 2nd February 1983 in which thirty members were present, with the objective of the Club to promote friendship and fellowship amongst its members. In May 2008 the Club held a lunch to celebrate its 25th anniversary with over sixty members, including ten Past-Presidents, and their partners attended.

Meetings

The Club meets on the first and middle Wednesday of each month. Carnoustie Probus Club is possibly unique in that its President is responsible for obtaining speakers for all meetings during his term of office, i.e. 20 speakers. Consequently the program tends to reflect, although not always, the Presidents personality and interests. The 2008 programme has included topics such as The Open Golf championship, mountain rescue, travel, wildlife and local topics. We are also entertained twice yearly by the local primary schools children’s choir and at out annual Christmas lunch by the Carnoustie High School Band.

Activities

With Carnoustie being a famous golf town it is surprising that the Club’s main sporting activities take place on the bowling green. Since 1984 we have pitted our skills against Arbroath, Forfar & Monifieth and credit must go to the various organisers of these matches over the years. The Club also arranges various trips at the behalf of our members and this year includes trips to the The Royal Yacht Britannia in Edinburgh and an evening visit to the Minstrels Show in Arbroath.

Membership

Membership of the Club is open to men aged sixty and over, resident in Carnoustie and district, and who have fully or partially retired. Further information on membership, can be had by contacting the Club Secretary.

Members from other Probus Club, if visiting Carnoustie, are always welcome, by arrangement through our Secretary, to attend our meetings. Telephone 01241 855032
