News letter

Summer 2008

Club secretaries are telling us they are now receiving emails from potential members who have found the name of their local probus club on the Club Register on this website. Previously we have been advising potential members to contact their local library who keep records of all local clubs. But We have been noticing that we dont have to do that very often recently. Success at last!

So please fill in the "Contact Us" in the margin to get the name of your club on the National Probus Club Register, it will help new members to find you. It also gives probus members from abroad a haven to visit.

But probus secretaries are also telling us that club numbers are falling due to deaths, members leaving the area, and the lack of new younger members coming to join. There has always been a cycle of high and low in club membership numbers. Lets hope that is the case.

But it is always a good idea to organize new member coffee mornings, pushing the "new members bit" and the attractions of making many new friends to people who have just arrived in your area.

We can also help; just give us all the details six weeks before the day, and we will illustrate a feature for you in "Your Club News". See left in the index. We recommend this before your numbers get too low.

A lot of us are going on holiday this month, dont forget to find out if there is a local probus club near to where you are staying. We are sure they would be pleased to welcome you to one of their meetings. Long standing friendships are often made this way

The picture in the background of this news letter is taken from the top of Blaky Ridge on the top of the North Yorks Moors. If we planned a Probus Walk there on a Sunday to include lunch at the Lion Inn during the second half of September, would you like to come. Please "Contact us" see the margin. Australians, members from Zimbabwe, or any probus member who wants to miss the flight back are welcome. Please let us know this month to organize lunches.

Spring 2008.

March 21st; the first day of spring. Seasons pass so quickly! General comments from members say it wasn't a bad Winter! Frosts, winds, light covering's of snow, we can settle for that. But what for spring? We British! We will have to settle for that too.

More clubs are asking us to produce single web pages for them. We will make one for you from the details you give us, see Letune Probus Club in Cornwall. Oh and the Frenchay Ladies Club in South Gloucestershire, all now established on the world scene. Also look at York; and of course Edinburgh too. Overseas members are always interested to the read about the local history of where you are.

Equally important is just registering the name of your club, and your contact email address on the ukprobus.org Register. Potential members are still asking us for the name of a probus club near to where they live. But now we are able to refer more potential members to the club register.

Visiting Probus Members from overseas always tell us about the warm welcome they receive from Local British Clubs whenever they come on holiday, or to stay with relatives; they are so interesting to listen to! This website www.ukprobus.org now receives over 1000 visits per month from around the world, so perhaps it would be rather nice for us to write in our club websites:-

Overseas Probus Members visiting the UK are very welcome to attend a club meeting

In the outside world members are watching the world economy, and the lack of authority from our own F.S.A. Which could with the downturn in America lead to bleak mid winter.
Please take care it is nearly too late for us to make it a second time.

But we are not too old to stay active, many members are extremely active; acting as part time business Consultants, or local Councillors. Good health, and quality of life is maintained by the enjoyment of work, it must be all to do with that buzz we still get.
